Set your Anti-virus and Anti-spyware software so that it automatically stays up to date. This will help protect against new threats.
Make sure that you scan your system regularly and frequently, especially with your Anti-spyware software.
Check the settings for cookies on your browser. Make sure they reasonably restrict the use of cookies by web sites you visit.
Be aware of the email you are opening, especially the attachments. Unexpected email can sometimes be the result of a virus on someone elses computer.
